An Analysis of Truck-Involved Freeway Accidents Using Log-Linear Modeling
نویسندگان
چکیده
Log-linear modeling is advanced as a procedure to identify factors that underlie the relative frequency of occurrence of various accident characteristics, such as accident type, location, and severity. The method is centered on the estimation of saturated log-linear models for pairs of accident variables and determination of indices of association between categories of the variables. Using data drawn from more than 9,000 truck-involved accidents that occurred over a 2-year period on freeways in three metropolitan counties in Southern California, the method is demonstrated by analyzing accident characteristics both by type and by freeway route segment. Accidents by collision type are analyzed relative to characteristics such as the primary collision factor, the location of the accident, the time period, road conditions, and weather conditions. Differences among 38 specific freevvay segments in terms of accident characteristics are also analyzed. The results of the analyses indicate that the method is a useful tool in uncovering underI!.ing patterns in accident characteristics.

An analysis of the severity and incident duration of truck-involved freeway accidents.
Data associated with over 9000 accidents involving large trucks and combination vehicles during a two-year period on freeways in the greater Los Angeles area are analyzed relative to collision factors, accident severity, and incident duration and lane closures. Relationships between type of collision and accident characteristics are explored using log-linear models. The results point to signifi...
متن کاملTruck Accidents at Freeway Ramps: Data Analysis and High-Risk Site Identification
To examine the relationship of ramp design to truck accident rates, this paper presents an analysis of truck accidents in Washington State, plus a comparison to limited data from Colorado and California. We group freeway truck accidents by ramp type, accident type, and by four conflict areas of each merge or diverge ramp. We then compare these groups on the basis of truck accidents per location...
متن کاملTruck-involved Crashes and Traffic Levels on Urban Freeways
Using two years of crash and average annual daily traffic data we examine the locations and conditions linked to truck-involved crashes (accidents). A binomial logit model is used to describe how the probability that a crash involves a truck is a function of the percentage of annual average daily traffic that is accounted for by trucks, time of day, day of the week, weather conditions, mix of t...
متن کاملLatent Factors of Severity in Truck-Involved and Non-Truck-Involved Crashes on Freeways
Truck-involved crashes have higher crash severity than non-truck-involved crashes. There have been many studies about the frequency of crashes and the development of severity models, but those studies only analyzed the relationship between observed variables. To identify why more people are injured or killed when trucks are involved in the crash, we must examine to quantify the complex causal r...
متن کاملModeling and Optimization of Truck-Shovel Allocation to Mining Faces in Cement Quarry
Truck and shovel are the most common raw material transportation system used in the cement quarry operations. One of the major challenges associated with the cement quarry operations is the efficient allocation of truck and shovel to the mining faces. In order to minimize the truck and shovel operating cost, subject to quantity and quality constraints, the mixed integer linear programing (MILP)...
